The overwhelming Kathmandu city welcomes you from where you will begin your Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek. Himalayan Hope Treks representative will be at TIA Gate to take you towards your accommodation.

Early morning, we will set forth for a 45-minute flight to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu. At its small airport, we will meet our porter and guide then change into our jeep to reach Taplejung, the beginning point of our Kanchenjunga base camp trek.

Today we start our real trek towards Kanchenjunga. We will hke lowland by the river of Tamur to the Mitlung Village. Here, a steel cable bridge will transfer us to other Tamang and Limbu hamlets of Sinuwa and Tawa. Chirwa will then soon be seen resting by the Thiwa River.

Walking lowland along the Tamor River, we will travel through the Taplethok, Tamewa, and Lelep settlements. We will be met by the checkpost of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area from where a constricted trail will lead us up to Sekathum where the jeep track now ends and Tamor River rushes to Ghunsa Khola.

From Sekathum, we will commence to climb along the sharp sloping trail of Ghaiyabari (2150 m), Chanjalung Danda, Jongim, and Solima to arrive at the Sherpa settlement of Amjilosa.

From Amjilosa, we will begin the short yet steep ascent along the valley slope through the dense rhododendron jungle into the bamboo field of Thanyani Village before we reach our ultimate Sherpa destination of Gyabla.

Following the upward trail by the Ghunsa Khola, we will reach Phale Village for lunch. Continuing on, we will cross a few drawbridges and arrive at the Place of Winter, the Ghunsa Village.

For the acclimating hike, we will set forth to cross the river and climb up the 3900 m Viewpoint to see the Jannu Himal. Later, we may take a look around the monastery of the Ghunsa Village.

From Ghunsa, we will set off upward to Rambuk Kharka (3720 m) from where we can look around the Himalayan scene formed by the Ghabur, Phole, Sobi Thongje, and Jannu peaks. In the afternoon, we will be standing in front of amazing display of Yalung Glacier at Kambachen.

Setting off upward along the snow and ice slope, we will be at Ramtang (4350 m). Next, the northwest trail of Kanchenjunga Glacier guide us to Lhonak from where we will be setting off for the Kanchenjunga north base camp tomorrow.

The main day of our Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek is today as our purpose will be to reach the north base camp of Kanchenjunga which is also called as Pang Pema by some.

The approach will be technically easy but strenuous due to the glacial terrain and altitude. In around 2 to 3 hours, the north base camp of the third tallest Himalayas is reached.

'The mighty slopes of Kanchenjunga along with Jannu, Chang, Taple Shikhar, Nepal Peak, Ramtang Peak, Tent Peak, Yalung Kang, Drohma Ri, and Langpo Glacier outshine the terrain.'

'After seeing and looking around the icy terrain of the base camp, we will hike back downward towards Lhonak.'

We will cover the same track as we had in our earlier days but this time only downward through Kambachen towards Ghunsa.

Once again the familiar Ghunsa Khola will pave our way towards Amjilosa through Phale and Gyabla Villages.

The vegetation is much greener now as we continue to move downhill through Sekathum, Ghaiyabari, and Helok to arrive at Chirwa for dinner and a night’s sleep.

Our Kanchenjunga base camp trek is nearing its conclusion now as we have the final foot journey ahead. Trekking downstream through Sinuwa, Porke, Tawa, Siwa, and Mitlung settlements, we will finally be at Taplejung.

If we have a straight domestic flight available to Kathmandu from Taplejung, we will get on board. If that is not the case, we can alsodrive irect to Kathmandu via local bus or jeep to Bhadrapur and then to Kathmandu. Or, we may also drive towards Suketar and fly to Kathmandu through Biratnagar.

Together with Himalayan Hope Treks rep, you will go to TIA to set off towards your home. This is the conclusion of our Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek 17 days adventure.
